Apparently we needed to be a little more specific when explaining fishing to my three year old...

Went to the LFS yesterday to check out what they had. I was absolutely dumbfounded to find that they actually had cardinal tetras! This is the first time I have ever seen them in a pet store in this area. They were EXTREMELY small though. I would have been really apprehensive about trying to get them home.

I DID end up getting an assassin snail for $2.99, annnnnnnnd a school of zebra danios. Not at all what I had planned on getting.

The Congos were still there, but my husband and I were drawn to a tank that was full of the zebras. They just looked great! I had always been a little against getting them because of their commonality, but wow. Loved them. My husband liked them too which is always a plus. When we looked at the price they were going for $1.49 as opposed to the $14.00 for the Congos...

Well, I now have 10 of them swimming around. They really liven the tank up. I am a little disappointed at how much time they spend at the very top of the tank in the currents, and that's mainly just because it's hard to see them like that. I keep my tank filled to the tip top so they are often hidden by the border around the top of the tank.

Other than that I'm pretty happy with them. I think at this point I'll probably also end up keeping up with my neon school because the Zebras aren't exactly adding the kind of color I was originally looking for.

Danios are a great 'activity' fish but they do lack a bit of color. They are strictly to the top usually but something you may consider down the road are hatchets. They are deeper bodied and really like that top area too. They may show more than the slim danio.

Seems I've missed a bit over here. Mandy, congrats on the new Danios and the growth of your tank! Really love how it's looking - which is better and better with every new addition. That new piece of driftwood really fills it out and is eye-catching. Great choice!

Danios are definitely fun to watch, because of all the activity. That's how I felt with my BRBs, too. Love the activity. They're all over the place, all the time. Hatchet fish would be cool, too, but you might consider a smaller, more colorful killifish group. They love the top of the tank, but they'll also get around, and make use of the entire tank.

The angels are looking big and beautiful, so congrats on being a good fish keeper and keeping them happy/healthy. =]

I must have missed when you added a Salamander to the tank? Was that mentioned or did it just show up, spontaneously? lol That's one way to mix it up a bit.

Oh, Kevin. I think you might need to take another look at the salamander post my friend. :)

I was just wondering how things were going with the tank Mandy. Any updates?

    Hey KF! :)

Sorry about the lack of posting. I really don't have anything to update on, and I've been dealing with some really yucky morning sickness. I haven't really been doing much of anything while I'm trying to cope with it.

The only thing of interest I can think of in relation to the tank is that two of my Danios swam up my hose when I was doing a W/C. I had to jump outside and pick them out of the grass!

Bummer about the morning sickness. Hope it goes away soon.

Those danios sure are hardy!!! That's why I cover the vac tube with mesh and remove about 80% of my water first, then vac the sand into a 5 gal bucket. Before I could stop it, I know a fish would go right down the drain!
