lighting
I bought a new light and it gives me 216w is that too much light for a 55g planted? should I only turn one side on. and make it 108w or just leave it alone?

It def seems like a LOT to me unless its a high tech tank.
Do you run CO2? What spectrum are the bulbs? I run 108w [1x6500K & 1x10000K bulb - No CO2] over this 55G:

Blue stricta = Hygrophila corymbosa 'Siamensis 53B'
Considering the excel & high lighting I am assuming you are going for a carpet w the chain sword. If so, I would definitely go with all 4 and see how it goes. Tweak as required obviously.

You may want to raise the light fixture up higher so the light isn't so intense.
