That's a pretty cool tank firefly, congrats on the freebie. =] Looking good already. I did that with my Anubias plants and driftwood. I attached them via nook/cranny & a hole. No strings... The only time I have detachment problems is when I'm doing water changes. Only one of them starts to float. I've thought about tieing them down, but I haven't decided if I really like them there. haha

What's the output on that light anyway?

Yeah I do that with anubias too. Their roots lock in pretty fast.

Not sure on the light rating. Don't have the box any more and can't seem to find out online. Hmmm.

Are you getting any heat from the light?

No, not really. It's cool to the touch.

Ok, quick update. I went to my LFS today and couldn't resist a couple of plants for my main tank (even though it's bursting at the seams with plants!) I picked up a Hygrophila polysperma 'Sunset' and a Pogostemon stellatus spec. I planted two or three stems of each in the main tank, and had a few bits left over for elsewhere, so I stuck them in here, along with a few other offcuts from random tanks.

A motley collection...let's see if they'll grow with only 4-5hrs of light per day. Annoyingly, the major drawback to this tank is you cannot use a timer for the lights. They're touch lights so powering off switches them off. Powering on does nothing.

The moss had quite a bit of die back to start with, about half of it went brown, but it's coming back after its shock (probably from going a week without a heater - I have one now!)

A cute Alternanthera rosaefolia mini cutting.

I also picked up some live daphnia for the fish in my main tank. I dropped a few in here to see what they'd do (to see if they'd survive?) and they promptly got sucked into the filter. Whoops.

I might put snails in this tank actually...can anyone recommend some attractive ones that won't eat my plants?

I was going to recomend a blue mystery snail, but they tend to come out of the water and would not work in an uncovered tank... How about some cheerful red ramshorns? They only eat dead plant matter and algae..

Ramshorns look really nice. I might see if my LFS stocks them. Thanks.

That might be asking for trouble, since Ramshorns reproduce like rabbits. You might be able to control it, if you keep algae in check and don't overfeed.
