Very cute! I'm glad you adopted an older dog too!
I have a mini as well...she's a lovely dog. I do have to work hard to keep her weight down to have her nice and slim and trim. She had a knee issue last fall, so no power walks since then - to give it time to heal (and avoid surgery). I think we can start her up slowly again this spring though.
I have had both purebreds and mixed breeds. I like all dogs...but I'm definately on the purebred side of the fence.55 g Goldfish Tank - 5 Fancies, 2 Dojos

Thanks! How old do you think my dog is? We were told that she was around 2-3 years, but I'm not sure.
I'm sorry your dog was hurt. It sucks to see them be held back from doing what they like doing.
Gibson gets tons of exercise by playing with the other dogs and cat. They will all run around the house like no other. It is a trip.
I'm more a pure-bred person, too, but all dogs can be awesome if properly trained.
Since we got Gibson, the other dogs have been much better. He is rubbing off on them a little.

I'm not the best at guessing ages...but if I do, I need to see their teeth. He has no grey hair in his muzzle either...that often starts around 5 years (but varies a lot...don't go by that alone).
I'm glad his good behaviour is rubbing off on the others!55 g Goldfish Tank - 5 Fancies, 2 Dojos

I looked at his teeth, and I'm guessing about 3 or 4 based off pictures I have found online. I didn't know about the gray hair on the muzzle. Thanks for the tip!

...no problem! Doesn't work well on dogs with white muzzles either.
Cats get grey too...my one cat with a white muzzle...is also going grey, but I have to check her ears for those hairs...
She's 15, but looks a lot younger. At least that's what I tell her.

Just saw this thread, Gibson is adorable! I'm glad your fiance rescued him, that you have done your research on caring for dachshunds, and most of all that you finally got your dream dog!!! :D I have a 7 lb 1 yr old mini dachshund named Charlie (female). She looks almost exactly like Gibson, just smaller. Bought her from a reputable breeder at 9 weeks old. I've always either adopted or bought from well-researched breeders.
MY dream dog was a dalmatian or a dachshund, but at the time we had a large golden retriever so decided to get a dalmatian. Best dog I ever owned, but tragically was killed by a car last April. Fiance was upset that I was always upset after it happened and though I wouldn't really recommend this, we ended up with the dachshund puppy a little over a month later. TOTALLY different dogs, let me tell you! But I love my doxie to pieces and wouldn't trade her for anything ;). Does Gibson burrow in everything? Mine does, lol, it's hilarious. They're quirky little dogs.29 gal community
