I really wasn't ready to start this project yet. I was going to finish the rest of my basement first. But when I saw the tank with base, canopy, sump, pumps, uv sterilizer, lights etc. for $300 I decided to go for it. So now I'm playing catch up.

The tank is pretty deep so one thing I wanted to try is to have top, middle, and bottom dwelling fish. Most of the African Cichlids I had hung out at the bottom. I want to have a mix in this one.

I love that tank. I think I may try to do something similar.

    400w MH!.. Hello Power bill!

It's not mine but I would be tempted to be minimally substrate planted but with anubius on the large DW hardscape and some floating plants, It would simplify things from a maintenance perspective. [Red Root Floater anyone? ] Possibly get some bulletproof wisteria and chop it low for a while so it divides and let it go crazy after it bushes out a bit.

From a stocking perspective I don't find 3'x3' all that appealing for larger SA cichlids. I would find a couple things you like the look of and have massive schools of them. You have a nice footprint for shoals of corys and loaches and several interesting plecos also. Shrimp too.

This could be a swirling vortex of fish awesomeness

    Just an idea :-D
    Gas mileage isn't everything OIIIIIIIO
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

A warm beer is better than a cold beer. Because nothing is better than a cold beer, and a warm beer is better than nothing.
