ich maybe?
about one week ago I noticed one of my black phantoms was hanging out near the water surface and wasn't interested in eating.. checked parameters 0/0/5. all other fish acting normal. on Sunday I saw what looked like a parasite on his side behind his gill (short but threadlike) so I did a big wc and treated with PraziPro. he wasn't eating flakes with garlic extreme but did go for some frozen bloodworms. today I check and he has what looks like 2 tiny cottony tufts where I thought I saw parasite!
No ich symptoms on any other fish, no flashing or loss of appetite with other fish. Do I treat for ich? I have Kordon Ich Attack...I can't qt because that tank is occupied :(_______________________________________________

I really can't say anything without pics, unfortunately. The short and threadlike part does sound like fluke, I would have guessed anchor worm but they're generally uncommon in aquaria and more a problem of ponds.
The cotton might be some kind of secondary infection?

well, I'm gonna hold off until tomorrow after work, do another big wc and treat with Kordan Ich Attack... I'm afraid of this getting worse, just wish I could be more sure I was doing the right thing.

fishmommie, that was my original thought also but then it changed a bit... I'll keep researching and hopefully will figure out something definite.

Geez this can make you crazy...parasite, fungus? I'm researching like mad and now thinking it may be a fungus...I just don't know. This is horrible when you know you only have so much time but don't want to make the wrong decision when it can/will have an affect the entire tanks occupants

not much has changed for my phantom, been treating with prazipro and have metro+ ordered. I'm starting to think bacterial bacterial popeye...if so a antibiotic treatment?

It looks like ich to me. By the way, ich IS a parasite.
Also, if he has popeye, keeping the water clean usually is enough to make it go away in about a week.Liters to Gallons conversion calculator
