Stocking idea's for 80g tank

okay, so with
8x Congo Tetras
7x Crimsonspotted Rainbowfish
6x Bandit Corys
6x Albino Corys
6x Kuhli Loaches
20x Cardinal Tetra's

Aqua Advisor says -Your aquarium filtration capacity is satisfactory.

Your aquarium filtration capacity for above selected species is 112%.
Recommended water change schedule: 34% per week.
Your aquarium stocking level is 104%

I like this sort of mix, is there something else though that would work well with these?

I'd give this a shot and see how it goes. it's a lovely mix. you'll have color and movement in all regions. live with it a while and you'll know if you want to make adjustments down the road. good luck!

Everyone is entitled to opinions, but I was very dissapointed with Albino Cories. They get pretty sizable, and they are somewhat lazy. Plus they are blind, so they can get picked on and dont school together because they cant see each other.

I would sub any cory for those albinos, but Leopard Cory, Julii Cory, Sterbai Cory, and Bronze Cory would be nice with your bandits.

Or you could just boost your badit population, have 8-10 of those, and do some more tetras.

These guys are really beautiful, I have seen many before in my LFS but they are always hiding and I read up on them and they are really only active in the dark, I feel if I bought one of these I would never see it?

I didn't realize this about the Albino's, thanks for the heads up! I might try my luck at one of the others rather than more of the Bandits (although I really do love the Bandits!) but I would just like to have more of a range? Also would they all school together? The Bandits and other Cory's that is?


I'm getting rather excited now! I'm just going to be sad to say goodbye to my Cichlids but they all need to go. My Giraffe boys are starting to get to the stage where they are not going to be so peaceful together and my Crimson Tide Mr.Boots is starting fights with them (A hatred after they ate Mrs.Boots).

Now I just have to plan all my plants and get some better driftwood!

Would anyone recommend some plants or maybe some tanks for inspiration?

They tend to get used to the tank and come out more then, check out this video, this is what got me really hooked on them lol i also read that they are practically blind so no ruff edges lol

Typically, different species of Cory Cat do not school together. I have seen and heard of specieis that have similar color patterns hanging out together, but I would not make the assumption that different types will huddle in a school. I have really enjoyed my Sterbai Cory.

As far as plants and aquascaping goes. I like the way that branch style drfitwood looks, mainly Manzanita. I have seen a lot of fantastic tanks, but most of them look high tech and have a ton of ground cover, when I have not been successful with. I do like, and have luck with, Amazon Swords, Java Ferns, and Broad Leaf Anubias Nana.

I wasn't to sure if the different Cory's would school together, I think I'll either make my bandit school bigger and have just them or otherwise just add 1-2 more fish to each pod (the sterbai cory sound good), but would that be to many fish for the tank floor? The area on the bottom is 6,100 cm squared, is that enough room for them all plus the 8 kuhli loaches with the greenery in there as well ?

I love all these tanks you have suggested, especially the first link.

I too really like the idea of the branch-like driftwood, I have some driftwood atm but it's more of a wide flat branch thing... ? It came with the free tank so I had no complaints!

I guess with the plants it's more of a try for the best and just see what grows and what doesn't ? I'll put the plants you suggested on my list and see how I go with them.


Now when I change over my tank (I'm selling the cichlids) and I have pebbles/gravel on the bottom of the tank at the moment so I will have to change that and I am buying a new filter as well as running the old one. Will I have to cycle the tank after all this? Or will I not need to change from all the good bacteria from my filter?
