Well I really want to do a lush planted tank with a large school of Neons (like 30+) maybe corys or ottos on the bottom. Not 100% sure just yet.

I really don't think you need such a big tank. I think with what you want to do you probably could go as small as a 55, but weren't you wanting to do a "island" like "Nature's Chaos"?
In that case focus on a corner or cube tank, just my .02, with a tank like this I think you could do so much more :)
But I too would like a tank with that stocking (except I'd do cardinals)55g: DG, 5 GBR, 10 Zebra Danio, 6 Cherry Barb, 5 Oto, 6 Sterbai, 9 Platies, RCS

+1 Hardy- IMO cardinal tetras are great.
Roll the Dice!

Yes Hardy, I do want to do the island theme and the benefit to this tank is the 24" depth (front to back). I could pull off 2 smaller islands - lol one for neons and one for cardinals.

I would love to be able to do something like that, bit out of my budget currently. I don't think stocking will be hard, other than finding someone that will order that many neons and not charge you $3/fish

Ya money's tight so I am in no hurry. Got a couple side jobs going for some hobby cash. Watching CL closely for a deal to come along that has most of what I need. I already have a 'greenhouse' of plantlets going in my little 10g.

yea, all my plants are taking off in my 55g finally. Makes me happy to know that when I get another tank I'll just be able to trim and relocate some

I was having a terrible algae problem in my 55. I reduced feedings and added a few ottos. They really cleaned it up. I also started using Flourish Tabs(3-4 mos), Flourish Liquid(weekly) and lightly dose with Flourish Excel every other day. Really is looking good. I will have to post a pic in a bit.

Yea, I am only using the flourish tabs, and have a few otos. Haven't had any algae, other than maybe a tiny bit of hair algae, but its hardly noticeable. My issue had been dust on the plants from improperly washed substrate
