  1. Default Stocking a 16 gallon, ideas?

I have a 16 gallon aquarium. I want some interesting fish, and im thinking of making the aquarium like a biotope. Any ideas? I already have a plant-aquarium, so it could be fun to try something new.

depends of course on how rare you want to go on your fish. the only 3 biotopes I can think of that don't have to contain significant
    plant matter are:

    - south american blackwater with things like small tetras
    - african shelldweller cichlids
    - mountain stream with hillstream loaches, white cloud mountain minnows, etc

+1 to madagascariensis suggestion of a south american blackwater biotope. You will find many of the tetras he mentioned, more available than species for the other set-ups.

You'd need soft water for one of those.

    This was my first thought.

+2 to either... the deciding factor would be how the ph in your tapwater reads.
