Well, once you have identified fish that you like the looks of and have determined that they are appropriate for a 29gal, then it's time to ask how many you can keep, whether you need to keep a certain ratio of males to females and whether you might need plants - some fish enjoy floating plants for cover, some like them to hide behind them and some like to dig them up or eat them.

if you wanted to go with killies then maybe start with something simple. golden wonders are great looking fish and are becoming more common. i think they are also some of the more common killies and great for your first killi experience. breeding them shouldnt be hard and there are plenty of articles online about them. the differences between breeding them are minor so once you get the hang of breeding go with the more expensive ones...
