You can dry start HC but it is a real pain to take care of. It'll need constant watering, a tight cover on the tank, some bright lights, fertilizers and a high quality substrate. Eco-complete on its own wont be enough to keep the HC going unless you add a substrate fertilizer which contains both micro and macro nutrients. Plus, since eco-complete is more of a gravely mix than dirt, the HC might have some trouble spreading.
But, I could be wrong and you might have a lovely carpet come in. There are many factors to consider here.

hoping that HC will take root well in eco even if its a long shot. going to water daily with dilute solution of macros and micros or would something be more appropriate?
also tank will be CO2 injected at 30 ppm, 130w PC on 20g and ferts will be PPS Pro method.Last edited by sushicat; 01-27-2013 at 11:55 PM.
