Tankmate suggestions please.

I have a 29 gallon cycled tank. It has 2 ac20's and I do a PWC every 1 to 2 weeks of 10 gal. Water stays pretty consistent at 7.6 pH, 76 deg F, 0 Amm, 0 Nitrite, and 10-20 Nitrate. It's currently housing 8 neon tetras, 6 rummy nose tetras, 5 von rio tetras and 1 otocinclus.

I had a honey gourami that seemed to get along well, but died after a few months. I am looking for something else to add that would be happy alone or in a pair and of a similar size to the honey gourami. I'm not opposed to getting another honey gourami, just wanted to get opinions on some other choices.

I would first recommend upping your schools

end up with
12 Neons
8 Rummy
8 VR Tetra

and then look into a school 6-8 of Pygmy / Dwarf Cories for bottom feeders

not to side track you from your original question but to suggest additional fish will probably cause you problems.

the combination of your filtration and pwc schedule + more fish, will cause you issues.

if you were to increase your pwc to 50% every week, and trade one ac20, for an ac50. you'll be so much better off and your fish will be way more happy/healthy.

additionally with more clean, healthy water you could then add more fish.

+1 to mizzou, I had read that the filtration was ac50's not 20's... I'd also recommend upping 1 of the filters

I would add 3-4 Otos. The one you have probably sticks to one location most of the time, since he needs some friends. Add a few more and they'll be all over the tank. They're much more interesting to watch, when they're out and about. =]

Two AC20s is pretty borderline, so you should be doing more than 10gal of water change every 1-2 weeks. In fact, you should probably do 40-50% water changes every week, not every other week. You'd be surprised at how fast fish poop can accumulate. ;] About once a month you should also clean out your filters.

I agree with what all are saying.....and i cant stress enough how much better off you would be by boosting your tetra schools.

However, I think its important to honor the orginal question. If you are truly seeking knowledge about compatible fish that do well alone....

I have heard that the following fish would be less aggressive or non aggressive when alone with tetras.

German Blue Ram
Bolivian Ram
Rainbow Shark
Red Tail Shark
Pearl Gourami
Blue Gourami
Gold Gourami
Clown Pleco
Rubber Lip Pleco
Farlowella Catfish
Most Dwarf Cichlids (Apistogramma, Kribensis)

Also, haveing so corydoras at the bottom do really as a clean up crew to prevent leftover food particles from spoiling water quality.

I agree that you should up your water changes and upgrade one filter as recommended above.

As for your question, fix your schooling issues and then I think a pair of dwarf cichlids would fit in well.
