Dario Dario Female?...

I've had a gorgeous male dario for a few months, and he's my favorite fish in the tank. I was at the fish store earlier today and saw they got a couple dozen new ones in. Most were brightly colored, but only a couple were smaller and pale. I decided to roll the dice and hope for a female. So far they want nothing to do with each other, but it's only been a few hours.

what do you think?... juvenile male, or female?

Most badids in the pet trade are males. I hope for you that you've just scored some females but likely they just were some runts that haven't colored up yet. Only time will tell. You could see how the fish react to each other(because they'd know better) and decide from that.

I just got the one pale little guy (girl hopefully) today. The Male I already had isn't really paying any attention to it. I don't know... here's a pic of the male I just took...

Can't tell, wait for it to mature a bit more. It took me a while to find 2 pairs of darios of them. Ended up buying them from someone on another forum. Never actually seen one in a fish store before. They do show up in the auctions of the fish club I belong to, but very infrequently. Aquabid or other online source probably your best bet.

It's hard to say. I personally have four Dario Dario and not sure of their genders. I have a small pale one that I am also hoping is female but I also have two larger that have very faint red stripes, with one very bright male.


Dario Dario are known to have color variations that can mask some females as juvie males, so basically behavior watching is the way to go.
