Is it safe to add water while cycling?
Hey guys, I'm doing a fishless cycle of my tank. It is currently day 7 and I have no nitrites yet, my ammonia is at 2ppm in a 29g tank.
I don't have a hood, so I've lost a bunch of water due to evaporation. I was wondering if adding water is ok? I just got myself a glass hood for it.
Thanks.Current Tank: 29g Cycling

You can safely top up for evaporation as long as you are using dechlorinated water.
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

+1... no reason why adding de-chlorinated water would be bad.

+ to what all have said but while you're fishless cycling, it doesn't hurt, however, to leave the water level a little lower than you would with a stocked tank. Also an air bubbler helps and set the temp to about 82 to keep things moving along
Good luck. and have patience. Remember - ONLY test your water once every 24 hour period and when you see nitrites AND your ammonia has also dropped to 0 ONLY then do you add ammonia again - 1/2 of your original dose. If you just remember that, you'll save yourself a lot of trouble.
Again, good luck and good for you for cycling fishless.30 gal FW:dw gourami, cory cats, ABN pleco, Colombian & Serpae tetra, nerites & mystery snails
