I can't speak for other cichlids but while not commonly thought as being cichlids(which they are), I have had no problems with my Discus and rams, just ensure you have enough natural barriers in your setup.

Apistos?
I think you could fit a pair of apistos.

i love discus, but not this go around. i would rather do species tank.
and apistos are always on the radar. i had an awfully mean EBR, and he didn't go well with the apisto i introduced.
however, my bolivians are much calmer than he is. and when i do introduce him, they'll both be in a new tank/new layout. so that could help..

Keyhole cichlids, kribensis, appistos, all work well with Bolivians providing you make sure the tank is littered with eyeline barriers e.g river rocks, wood, caves, plants etc
My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

Thanks SF!
I'll have to make a run to the special lfs that has more cichlids to see what is available.
i believe they had all you listed.
not to cross posts, but if you check out my first round of design for the tank in the tank setup forum, i'd like to know if you think that is set up with the appropriate barriers you speak of.

If you want appisto's, I have seen a harem set up for A. Cac in 10-20gal tanks.
FW: 1 45gal, 1 40gal, 3 10gal, 3 30gal all community tanks of different species
Sw: 1 55gal, 1 30gal show, 1 29gal show, 1 20gal and 2 10's

that's good to hear.
i'll up my hard scape as recommended. That should help with lines of sight.
I love cockatoo's and other apisto's. so i'm excited to try it out
