I personally don't have a problem with the fact that you allowed the fish to die. You essentially did what breeders do - you selected the best and culled the rest. I myself have mixed gender platies but I rarely even see a fry because they are being eaten by the other fish in my tank. It's just that your logic is very strange... "I don't want to give them to someone else who might mistreat them. So instead I'll let freeze them to death".
300 gallon mega tank: build in progress
75 gallon community tank: tetras, danios, corys, platies, otos, pearl gouramis, bristlenose pleco, assassin snails, red cherry shrimp, bamboo shrimp
70 gallon growout tank: clown loaches, sailfin pleco
60 gallon goldfish tank: fancy goldfish
29 gallon frog tank / 10 gallon tadpole tank: 1 leopard frog, 1 tadpole
10 gallon and 5.5 gallon betta tanks: 1 male betta each, sometimes snails

An illogical and inhumane move. Many people who are inexperienced seek help on forums like these and soon learn about fish care. I cannot understand your decision of condemning them to certain death instead of giving or selling them to someone who might have given them a chance.
Anyway, this thread will not receive a favorable reaction from the community, and will go nowhere fast.
