Albino vs Common Bristlenose
Couple of questions.
1) Which do you prefer?
2) Which are easier to breed?
3) Should Albinos carry a higher pricetag?
I've just thinned my pleco collection and I am aiming to breed bristlenoses. I did manage to get my hands on some longfinned red/blacks, however my Golden wonder panchax jumped into the breeding net and ate them. I was keeping them there until they put on some size.
Now all I've got is 2 albinos and 4 commons, largest are 1.5inch.My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

If you can get them
1. IMO Neither, L144s FTW.
They are albino colored but with dark eyes.

2. I have L144s and common BNs but I have not attempted to breed either because both are in tanks with stock that won't allow me to drop the temps to the lower 70s facilitate spawning [A breeder told me that tip].
3. No idea, Sorry.

Yup! Technically they have blue eyes, They are brighter and more obvious when they are tiny though.

I've got 2 of the more common BN Plecos. They are pretty cool. Mine are only about 3.5 inches right now but they've both started to get their bristles. Kind of disappointed actually, I was hoping for a male and a female. The two are territorial with each other and have each picked half of the tank as their territory. It's 90 gallons so there is plenty of space, otherwise that might be a problem.
I agree with 850R though, the L144 variety have longer bristles. I would have gotten them if they were available in my area. Not that I'm unhappy with mine.
As for the question, shouldn't albinos and regular BN's breed at the same rate? They are the same thing essentially. Interestingly the albinos cost roughly the same, $1-$2 more at the most. At Petsmart the albinos are actually cheaper than the normal coloration. I prefer the natural coloration. I like my tank to look natural and that includes using only natural coloration of fish.

Shame I've never seen that variety in Scotland before

Over here the albinos are generally always dearer than commons, hmmmMy therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

This might make you feel a little better.. In my 90 I have a boy and a girl L144 [Both are about 5" - HUGE for BN

From 4 litters from 2 pairs of commons, I got 2 litters with albinos - about 25% in each , kept 4 in the big tank with some peppermints, not old enough to breed yet, will be interesting to see what happens. Personal preference is for a mix of albino and dark. Albinos usually a couple of dollars dearer here
