i used to keep tire track eels and they would escape into filters and out of the tank nightly. Then i discovered what is called plastic canvas. Can be bought and hobby centers or in the craft section at Walmart. Easily cut into any shape and can be hot glued or super glued to filter outflows or gaps in hoods easily. Plus they are less than a dollar a sheet and a sheet will do multiple tanks. Problem solved.
