Gave my lemon tetras to a friend who can breed em and got candycane tetras.
My LFS just got em in and I noticed the ones I bought were white/pink but the ones in the display tank (not for sale) looked amazing! like these. http://usafishbox.forumotion.com/t10...h-of-the-month
Anyone have experience with them? mine are mostly white/pinkish how long until they get to be that color?
If you're wondering I got em apparently pretty cheap 2 for 5 bucks! online they cost a lot more I picked up 14 of the lil guys.Long time fish keeper most experience with CA/SA cichlids, natives like sunfish, and aggressive catfish.

They should color up pretty fast if your tanks well planted, with subdued lighting.
Great choice. They should be similer to Rosy, Roberts, and Bentosi tetras; all very closely related.Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.

I'm still not 100% sure what type of HYPHESSOBRYCON sp. they are but they had 1 alone (they had 1 tetra of like every type in there from bloodfin to black phantom to neons serpae but only 1 fish of each in the display tank and it wasn't as red as the link but close; more of of lighter red. I bet since they had really bright light and fake plants in there it might not be the same color as a full school of 14 of them like I got.
The body shape etc is the same they just haven't colored up yet I just put them in (they are more pink body wise with red tails) I had the girl get me half white top fins and half white and black top fins.
I'm going to get my friend with a good camera to get me a pic to show u guys n gals.Last edited by FishGuy67; 05-16-2013 at 01:24 AM.

Here's a video of what the HY511, Candy cane should look like.

Half of them are exactly like those in the video you posted the other half have black on their top fins and seem darker in color. That doesn't mean their a diff. species though I'd imagine. Also like I said the one they had in the display tank looked closer to the video I linked. I like them as they are but do they get a more red color with time?
I have to say since my driftwood finally sank after nearly 6 months and I have my tank how I want it (need to order some plants from mike on aquabid) it's by far the best looking tank I've had. The candy cane tetras follow me around the tank and even will eat flake from my hand it's really cool I'm glad I got 14 of em they really seem happy.
They eat way more than my 10 lemons did and I find myself having to put twice as many frozen bloodworms in or they never reach the bottom for my corys lol. This led to a small ammonia spike of .2 but I fixed that with a waterchange; I'm sure my bio load will pickup the slack with a little time.Long time fish keeper most experience with CA/SA cichlids, natives like sunfish, and aggressive catfish.

The males usualy show more red; so you could be okay but they may have mixed some Bentosi tetra with them.

Pretty much all my candy cane tetras are showing darker red and some black on their top fins now. I don't think I have any bentosi mixed in just darker candy canes.

It's always nice to know your LFS knows their stock. Mine can't tell the difference in the true harley and the Espie LOL.
