Gourami sexing help, please! 8-/
image.jpg
As the subject states, I am looking for a second opinion on the sex of this gourami. When rescued, the fish was suffering from fin-rot, so I was unable to determine sex. Fins are more pointed than my other two, which javelin been confirmed as females. My hopes are obviously to breed them if I have a male. Three weeks of isolation has been good to the rescued gourami, as all the fin-rot is gone and the fish is regrowing the tattered fins and put lots of weight back on! Finger's are crossed as I await forum replies! ^_^
I can supply more pictures of the other gourami if need be.Last edited by UofMKitty; 12-12-2012 at 04:27 AM. Reason: No pic

Looks like it might be male to me - my female's fins are quite a bit shorter and rounder than that. I guess you will probably have to wait and see if the top fin becomes pointy once the damage from finrot is fully re-grown.

Your Gourami is still young, or has become stunted. The body proportions are not at a mature stage yet. I say male, but only tentatively. There is still growth to be done here.
A severe lack of trichogaster.
Just because your Gourami is sick does not mean it is always Iridovirus, DGIV, Gourami Disease, et cetera.
Look at all the other factors in your tank before coming to this conclusion.
