Thread: He's Alive!!!

    My little holiday 'miracle' story:

My last bumble bee catfish passed away a few months was sad, because even though I rarely saw him...the odd sighting was exciting! Like spotting a rare species of bird while birding...

I cleaned the tank the other day...and saw a fish hiding in a clay pot that was hidden in the plants, that looked odd. So I poked it...several times (gently)...thinking it was one of the two remaining geriatric cory cats - and that it was maybe stuck or something.

When it finally 'emerged' and I could see was a bumble bee catfish!

Frankly...I know I had two at one point. One in the upstairs community in the downstairs (long defunct) puffer tank. I assumed the upstairs one had died eons ago...and then the other one recently.

    Apparently not!

The only other explanation is that this one is an offspring? But I doubt that.'s my most exciting fish tale in months...

What a nice surprise to find a family member you didn't know you even had. He must not be much fun to have around if you never see him.

0 Not allowed! exciting as far as fishwatching goes...but now I know I still have him, I'll check for sightings!

My BN is always hiding too...but I can easily see him where he I can at least check on him. The cory cats come out at feeding time (but never both at the same feeding, lol).

My herd of CPDs is also secretive...but they all emerge from the forest of plants at feeding time at least.

Most of the time...the tank looks totally empty...even though there are at least 20 fish in there...

Lol! You both had holiday miracles. One with found food under a cabinet, the other with found fish in the tank. That's funny.

    I like finding 'live' pets!

But I also love to find a spare $20 in a pocket somewhere...that always makes my day!

    ...just for fun...resurrecting this thread...after 3 years...

Saw my bumblebee catfish again! This morning he was rooting around...I think it's the first time I've seen him out in the open - at least in recent memory. I have caught the occasional glimpse of him while cleaning the tank so I knew he was still around...but an open sighting! Unheard of!

    Too funny...

Congrats on your bumblebee catfish sighting! These must be super elusive.

Thanks! It's exciting to have one of these rare sightings...kinda like catching a glimpse of Bigfoot!

My tanks don't look like anything. I'm very lazy about the décor, so they're okay...but 'blah' compared to some of the more inspired tanks on-line. I have posted pictures in the past...they probably look much the same as what they looked like 10 years ago, lol.

Plus, in the community tank...I've recently been having an on-going war with 'sheet' algae. I think the algae is winning. Debating whether to just toss all the plants, try to clear it out and replant...or keep battling...

I have to admit there's a certain satisfaction that comes as I manually 'harvest' what algae I can...and toss it in the garbage...

It always makes me giggle when you get a sighting of your catfish. I had a similar experience with both of my panaqolus maccus. I thought they had died and was in the process of tearing down both tanks. As I was draining the tanks there they were. Like you, it had been quite some time since I last saw them.
When I go fishing I just throw sharp rocks in the water and wait for the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

Dear naps, sorry I hated you so much when I was a child... Love me
