Preasurized CO2 question

I have not found a definitive answer to this yet but maybe someone will know. I am considering giving CO2 a try. I also happen to have a good friend in the gas supply business.

I can get the CO2, tank and regulator from him for next to nothing. Logically I cant imagine there being any real differences in the regulators themselves other that the components that come after the regulator.

If this is true would I only be looking to add a solenoid, bubble counter, and diffuser to put this together? At least from a hardware standpoint...

dont forget to use silicone tubing latex will harden and crack i think. i dont see anything else you will need. you can also look into getting a co2 indicating fluid thing so you dont add too much without knowing it.

You left off one critical piece of equipment. The Needle valve.

There are differences in quality of gas regulators, but since you friend is in the gas business, don't be concerned at all. They aren't going to let you get a crap regulator.

Your friend, if they are feeling really friendly, can order a needle valve for you from their regular suppliers.

Have them order some extra seals too. The disposable ones should be changed at each cylinder swap. Perma seals are nice, but everyone looses one sooner or later by forgetting to take it off the tank.

Oh, one more thing. Bubble counters are great for setting up, but of little use after you get your regulator and needle valve set. For ceramic difusors, I prefer the units with a build in spiral under the ceramic disk.
