  1. Default Stick with these three filter systems?

After reading all the good threads on multiple filters, I added one to my system.

In a 75 gallon, I have two HOB filters: One Whisper 70 and the other an Aquaclear 70. I'm also running an undergravel filter with two penquin 1140 powerheads.

I feel like there is too much current now. Would it be okay to pull out the undergravel system and two powerheads?

(I really like alternating the cleaning of the two HOB's. It makes a difference!)

    Thanks for any help!

If your parameters are all inline, I would not change a thing.

I have used HOB and had used a UGF for years. Although I liked the HOBs a lot better, the UGF still worked well.

If you feel the flow is too much from the HOB filters, you could try using a flow diverter like in the below thread

If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Remember, stopping an UGF requires that you remove the undergravel platform and clean out all the organics there! Otherwise, a serious ammonia and/or other bad stuff may pollute your tank killing the fish.

Aside: I like UGF (reverse flow) for keeping phosphates and nitrates out of my substrate. Really regret removing the system from my tank (to save power.)
    Knowledge is fun(damental)

A 75 gal with eight Discus, fake plants, and a lot of wood also with sand substrate. Clean up crew is fifteen Sterba's Corys. Filters: canister w/UV, in-tank algae scrubber that removes phosphates and nitrates! Also, a highly dangerous commercial nitrate removal unit from hell

Thanks for the help! Is it possible to use smaller powerheads? That seems to be where the most movement is. I really can't seem to find how to size the powerheads, especially in relation to undergravel filtering.

    Thanks again :)

Why not run the uplifts with an airpump? This would lower the current in your tank significantly.

My GF calls me insincere... I pretend to care.

I don't know why not? That sounds like a great idea! I have all the parts to make that happen. Why do people switch to powerheads instead of the pump and uplifts?

    Thank you!

... Maybe they want more current or a higher flow through the UGF?
    Good luck.
