  1. Default Harly's and Black Neons Ok at 65 fahrenheit

Just wanted to share an interesting development. I've just realized I have been keeping my 5 black neons and 5 harlequin rasboras at 65 degrees Fahrenheit for who knows how long, at least 6 months. However, there has been no deaths to speak of. I've had this group of black neons for a little over 2 years now, and I have had 2 of these rasboras for at least 3 years, counting the time i had them in my 10 gallon tank for a bit. They have been just fine in that time period, and have grown to full size of an inch or an inch and a half. I'm appalled that I let them tolerate this temperature, so i thought I would share my failure once again with this forum and thank the fish gods that they have lived.
A sigh of relief from this fishkeeper!

I'm curious as to why you would keep them at 65 as I'm sure everyone else here would like to know as well. Do you not have a heater? Is the heater broken? How can 6 months or more go by without noticing the temp. so low? Do you have a thermometer? If you do not you should get one/some.

Breaking News: My heater isn't working. That explains a lot. Its 100w all glass aquarium, made in china. Looks like this.

How long have you had that heater? Maybe it just wore out. I'm sure you'll be getting another heater soon. Am i correct in guessing you have a twenty gallon aquarium now, or is it a thirty?
6 gal column- 1 powder blue dwarf gourami, 1 bronze cory, and one nerite snail, planted.
    10 gal - 2 F celebus rainbows, 3 ghost shrimp, 1 nerite snail, 1 mystery snail, planted
10 gal #2 - 6 flame tetras, 1 ornate tetra, 1 nerite snail, and 1 emperor tetra planted

It's a thirty gallon. i have had it a little over 2 years. Is that a normal time frame for a heater to wear out? again, I also have no idea how long is has just been sitting doormant, not doing what is was supposed to. Today I got a 150 watt Top fin, because my ten gallon has a top fin and is been going strong for over 5 years, keeping the tank at about 77 degrees.

Warm the water very slowly. A couple of degrees per hour until you get it where you need it.

If its a 30 gallon tank and you only have 5 black neons and 5 harlequin rasboras, if you can why not increase their school size by three each.

It warmed all afternoon, and now its about 73 degrees. I'll see where it's at in the morning, but I hope it does do anything drastic. Temp is good and normal now!

Ick takes a few days to notice. Fish are able to warm faster then cool down but keep an eye out for the white spots. My Harley's always showed the spots first. That was when I turned on the air conditioning and it cooled down real quick. Or it could have been something else......
