Thanks for your responses and recommendations. Looks like the classic series is overwhelmingly preferred both here and on another forum I posted to. So not only will I save some money, but if you are all correct (and I have no reason to doubt you ), I will also head off some potential problems experienced with the more expensive models.

I think I will be considering the 2217 even though it may be a little more than I need initially. I do tend to push the limit a bit with my stocking.

    Meh - NBD.

Proper tools --> Two plastic colanders and a perfectly sized bowl of dechlor water... Dig out & dunk the media in the bowl & then rinse/dunk the sponges.

Clean the canister and put it all back.

You know how often you have to perform this labor of love lol... Not very. Like I said... NBD.

Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

When I first set up my Tang tank it had no plants and a low bioload. I cleaned out the filter every six months. Now I have plants...jeez, the filth.
