Scrubbers do work

Just wanted to share a scrubber experience...

In all my complications from my wall build my poor eel has been stressed. I had to move him from two different setups because the ammonia was off the chart. The final move put the tessalata eel into a 30g long tank. The eel is about 2.5ft long and can't fit in the 2.5" PVC pipe. Within 48 hours the ammonia was 6.1mg/l or more. I took an old scrubber I built and decided to see what happens. Well, within 24 hours it halfed the ammonia. 48 hours there is no ammonia in the tank.

3" pipe that is almost 3ft long. That is how I move him from tank to tank. I don't have a big enough net to catch him lol

looks like the combination of that live rock and the algae on the srubber was just what you needed for your eel. Your eel looks great BTY

Looks like you have a LED fixture on the scrubber based on the heat sink that I can see. Did you buy the LED fixture or did you make it ?

I've been looking for a red fixture like that and I am really having a hard time finding one in North America.

Algae scrubbers are simply amazing - I use a freshwater one and it keeps a heavily stocked discus tank nitrate free. These devices are incredible in how fast and effective they work - I still don't see how they aren't the most common filter in the hobby now.
