  1. Exclamation Green Sev - white spots on fins. not ich??

Have been off the grid a week or so - holidays and company and all that.

Anyway, yesterday I thought I noticed some spots on my green sev's swim fins but - house full of people, no chance to take any action. Today, definitely more pronounced spots and also on this tail and dorsal. They are bigger than ich spots.
He's not glancing, is eating well, shows no sign of illness.
    Water perims: A-0, Nitrites- 0 Nitrates- between 5 - 10

90 gal FW. Last W/C was 5 days ago (60%) along with a substrate vac. generally do weekly W/C of 50%.
    Cleaned canister at that time.
Only thing different in tank is that when I cleaned the canister, I added a bag of carbon because I was not satisfied with the clarity of the water (rinsed it well in tap then conditioned water before adding) Removed no other media. There has not been any new stock since I added the sev over a month ago. He's about 4 inches nose to tail. Wormed entire tank with prazi pro and metro plus less than a month ago.

Video hopefully gives you an idea of what's happening with him.

I can QT him if necessary but worry that what ever is ailing him may already be present in the tank. Any and all suggestions welcome. I have melefix and pimafix on hand but can get to a LFS today and purchase more meds if necessary.

    Thanks

If you are positive it is not ick, and the spots are only on the fins, it might be parasites.

Try googling some pics to see

Prazi pro should take care of almost any parasite you may have in your tank, if that is what is going on here
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Well, gez. I just deleted Quick Time Player yesterday so now can't see the video. I would not use Melafix or Pimafix. They don't do anything anyway. I have no idea what it could be and can't see it of course without the player. You have added no new fish, correct?

    Hey Cliff
    thanks for responding
Unfortunately, I'm not positive about anything :o(. The reason I'm thinking it's not Ick is because he's not glancing, he's acting normal, eating really good. The spots are also a little larger than the ich spots I had when this tank had an outbreak back in Sept.

I added him to the tank on 12-4 along with a jurupari who turned up with a sore on his side a few days later (my yellow sev bullied him for a couple of weeks). Anyway I treated the tank starting 12-16 with full dose of Prazi and 1/2 dos metro+. Jurupari is fine now (I think it was a wound) and again, all other fish are whistle clean.

So -- you think assume parasite? (which just baffles me because I keep this tank so clean and again, no new additions). Would you do a full dose of prazi + metro or just the prazi?
Also - were you able to view the video?

That player did not work with FireFox but works fine with Internet Explorer.
It looks like Ick to me, too, but like you said, looks rather large for ick. Don't know what else it could be, tho. Ick shows up first on fins like that.

I have no idea where it could have come from if you have not added anything new to this tank.

Kingfisher - I agree. At first glance it looks like ick but (and I have limited experience with ick) the spots seem bigger and more spread out. And again, he's not glancing or acting strange in any way. and I've really taken time to study the tank this morning and no other fish has a spot on them. Also, my temp remains a steady 77 degrees (2 heaters) and I adjust water that I add when I do a W/C so it never varies.

Lady Hobbs - drat. Wish you could see the video. And no. no new fish since I added him and the jurupari on 12-4. And again, I treated the tank on 12-16 with full dose of prazi and 1/2 dose metro plus.

    Water is pristine.

If your not positive it can not be ick, then maybe it is ick

If I am remembering correctly, you had to deal with ick before but I can not remember when. The ick parasite can live in the substrate for around 3 or 4 weeks (not to sure on the exact lenght of time) before it becomes free swimming and can infect a fish. That has nothing to do with your water quality

Highly usual to ever get ick in an established tank with no new stock going in there. It has to come from somewhere and generally it's introduced in a tank via something else.

Didn't you recently add a new blood parrot?
