algae (?) slowly grows in little spots inside
We've something, algae(?), dark green to nearly black, slowly grows in little spots on the inside of fresh water aquariums. Easily removed by scraping it off with a razor blade.
Is there some way to prevent this minor nuisance?

How much light is getting to the tank? Is the tank near a window, or do you leave the tank light on for long periods of time? And how often do you do partial water changes, and how much water do you change?

If all you are getting is just a little bit of algae that can be cleaned off real easy, I would not worry all that much. Just make sure it is not cyanobacteria tho. The below link can help with that.

Edit, forgot to mention, +1 to the above postLast edited by Cliff; 12-30-2012 at 07:02 PM.
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Thanks. The situation arose when the sun fell low enough in the midday sky to hit the end of two aquariums. So obviously a light problem I am embarrassed I asked.
