  1. Default Mystery Creature

So I am in the cycling process of my tank. I have some live plants in there and subsequently have quite few snails that are hanging in there despite my tank having 5ppm worth of ammonia in it.

In addition to the snail hitchikers I saw tonight this mystery invert that I have never seen before. It's see through and looks like a mixture of a shrimp with a roly poly bug. It's super tiny and moves really really fast. It's just bigger than a grain of my pool filter sand. It's too small to get a picture of it even. I think there is more than one in there.

Any ideas what this thing is?

Side-effect of your psychosis? ...sorry, I couldn't help it
Just sounds crazy and I have no idea.
Maybe something that came in on a plant and has grown enough to be visible since being in your tank?

google "seed shrimp" or "isopods" and see if that fits.

Or it could be a Cyclops copepod.

Nope neither of those. I got it on video but I have to work all weekend so I'll try and post it Monday.

Check out this page, it has some interesting hitchhikers. It almost sounds like the thing your talking about could be a gammarus from what im seeing. Or maybe you will find something else that looks like it. If thats what it is its harmless, will hide most of time, and will eat algae and detritus, so if thats what it is i would leave it there.

Heres a picture of one of those things swimming:

I think they look kinda cute! :)
