The new betta has been named Crais and has settled in very well. He's even started to turn from black to blue. I tried to get some photos, but he wasn't all that interested in posing.

^_^ Gorgeous. Still looks like a DT with that long dorsal... Maybe he has some DT in him? I've got a CT/DT mix who has a spiky, split tail

You might be right. Bettas here are rarely differentiated by type, but are mainly VTs, occasionally you'll find some CTs. I'll keep an eye on him as he grows and see what he turns out as.

And Crais keeps getting bluer and bluer. Looking at the photos from when I first got him home I can't believe that his fins have grown so much! I'm starting to think that he is a DT. He's a lovely active, friendly fish, who dances so much when he sees me that I can't get a clear photo of him, so here's a video. Sorry about the quality, I took it on my phone. He really shows himself off at about the 25 second mark

I would still swear up, down, sideways, and diagonally that he's a double tail. He certainly looks like one... Are you sure he isn't?

He could well be a double tail. If so he'd be the first I've seen around here. The one really good fish shop does sometimes have Crown tails or Plakats, but generally it's only Veiltails. The place I got this guy from, though they're very good on keeping their tanks clean, just have any bettas labelled 'Fighting Fish', and don't know any more than that. If he does turn out to be a DT I might consider breeding.
He hasn't built any bubblenests yet. I'm assuming that the change in colour from black to bright blue is probably some kind of fish puberty, so maybe he'll start building soon.
