Recently my heater had failed and killed off about 10 fish when I was gone for the weekend, that and with the massive amount of poop my Pleco produces I think is the problem. I haven't had time to do major water change to fix. Oh is always been high. Hardness too.

Well if you haven't had time to do a water change and give your fish basic welfare you won't have time to pick up any more fish. Sort out your tank first, then look for new inhabitants.
