I have always use the rule of thumb for around 3 watts per gallon

I am currently using aquatop heaters (link below) in my marine tanks. I have two 300 watt in my 120, and three 300 watt in my 180. I have found the temp setting to match each other right out of the box. When one cuts in, they all cut in. You just need to keep the temp sensors next to each other

If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.
