  1. Default Ghost Shrimp. It's whats for dinner!

A few months ago, when I had my 10 gallon set up, I noticed my largest shrimp (Shrimpzilla is what I've started to call him) with half of another shrimp in his mouth eating him up... I didn't think anything about it..just thought the smaller one might have died some how.

Then last week, and with all occupants in the 29, I noticed Shrimpzilla with another one of his buddies in his mouth half eaten and being digested.
I have no reason to believe they are dying off unless they have their own little shrimp disease...but all waters parameters have been good to go.

I started off with 5, now I have 3. Shrimpzilla was always the biggest when I purchased them. and has grown at a much faster rate than the others.
He gets plenty of flake food left overs and will even join the frenzy with the rasboras at feeding time, so he's not going hungry.
    Can shrimp be cannibalistic?

edit:...bahh I just noticed this was the saltwater side...redirect

yes my ghosts always were killing each other if I had a lot of stuff in the tank, you could try putting shrimpzilla in a large breeder box until other shrimp are about his size.

do as I say, not as I do- William
I think if someone thinks clownfish are called nemos they should banned from keeping sw tank.

Are you certain that Zilla is eating an actual shrimp, and not the moulted shell of another?

They do this to re-use the leftover calcium to build new shells

Ghost shrimp aren't usually cannabilistic unless they are starving, but they do and will scavenge the bodies of other deceased shrimp

+1 to what slap said. Apparently the molted skin has some kind of nutrients( Right?)
When everything goes without a hitch its only then do you realize something is wrong

Nothing that they wouldn't come out for when feeding. Plus when I transferred the tank I did I thorough head count..
as I was typing I looked over at the tank just to watch them and sure enough..the small one is just sitting there..and here comes Zilla. the little shrimp was getting away as fast as he could.

He didn't capture him. I've also noticed they are usually on the opposite side of wherever he is though.
I got my phone out to video, but not in time to get the initial stalking. I'll link the video once it is through, coding on Veemeo.

You can see he is full of food and waste. so he's not starving either.
