Just what Silbar said. LFS would have water the most like yours (except for you with your varying parameters). I don't have dirted tanks or high pH/low pH tanks. Other than being planted they are very similar. So I simply P&D. As Rachael explained if the tanks would have such varying TDS where I would have to acclimate; it would not be something that would safely be done in a day. I would have to set up a tank that had matching parameters to the fish's home tank and slowly change the parameters in that tank to match the fish's home tank over days/week to acclimate, not an hour or two (in a small bag which will stress the fish even more than it has been already).

Most fish are able to handle pH changes very well and slight TDS changes also. I haven't had issues with plop and drop. Matter of fact it was how I would add fish to my tanks before I learned about the acclimation method. But like you said, each his or her own, I just find this to be the least stressful for my fish and for me.

    Thanks for your thoughts :)

Actually it's an odd sitch for me since I'm on the border (10 mins) from another province where my LFS is. They get their water from a completely different source. The big chain store somehow keeps their pH at 7.0 always, and heat the store to heat the tanks, so they are all about 75°f.

The D&P method is interesting though. I was always nervous about those poor fish in the little bags

Slap, I guess with that many you almost have to use Plop and Drop. I can't imagine trying to drip acclimate all 250 bags of fish you're getting in today.

I was on the fence awhile back, too. Then I had that situation where the fish got "lost" and instead of being delivered on Friday, they did not arrive until Monday. I knew that the toxic soup they were swimming in had to be dealt with ASAP, so I went ahead and D&P them. Couldn't be any worse than what they were in at the time. I only lost 2 pearl gouramis out of approx. 45 fish.
The next time I ordered, Rocksor pointed out that all of my fish come from the same supplier (TWS) . If the fish in that crappy water survived, then fish from the same local should do well with a D&P. I have found that the fish color up almost immediately and are looking for food sooner.
You have to go with what you feel comfortable with.

This is my first major D&P, if it goes well, I'll always do it with TWS fish

Sil, that is the exact reason I agree with Drop'n Plop, can't be any worse than the pea-soup they are in ;)

And sticking with a reputable company is a smart idea. You've all had good experiences, that means a lot.

Even though it doesn't really work in my case, I sent the video to a friend and he watched the whole thing abs commented that is was interesting, so thanks so much. I just keep learning.

I've used both, but with D/P my fish would many times end up with ick and I lost a few, once I started ordering from TWS and saw the "slow acclimation" process they suggested on their bags I started using that system and have never lost a fish that was not DOA to begin with but that being said "just because it's different does not make it wrong" ;-)

Seems like a lot of things--it depends on situation. Both techniques make sense to me, depending on the circumstances.
