I bought the 10 gram bag, $10.50 - it's a good number of cubes. Next time I will buy the 50 gram bag, as shipping was free and they are FD, so no storage problems. I would start with the 10 gram.

    Cool Partial tank re-do

    2 Not allowed!
I have not been happy with the left side of this tank for a while, as I think I had too many different plants in the tank. So I re-scaped the whole left side using a new plant from Aqua Top. I added a 20", 16" and a 12", placed together in the back corner.

    New plant -
    RAT01431-1.jpg

The fish are wary of the new decor (except for the danios, nothing scares them). Unless food is involved (they had a Tetra Tank Nibbler last night and breakfast this morning on that side without a problem), they are all staying on the right side. It's too funny! A couple of the scissortails have ventured across to the left side, along with one of the smaller rainbow girls. My rainbows are usually not shy about anything, but they are leery of the new plants. I may move them apart a bit, so they can have a bit more "swim between the plants" room.

I transferred Mr. Pleco to the 75 gal. He is a very happy boy, leisurely cleaning the back glass. Last night he was resting on one of the red leaves, facing toward the back glass. This is a big deal for him, being off the glass or up off the sand. I bought him some green seaweed, so tonight I will try some in a mesh clip.

I added about 25 lbs of sand ( I lose a lot when I vacuum) and my DIY PVC plant anchors, for the light green, red and tall, thin, dark green plants -

    20140809_151224.jpg

The PVC anchor gets buried, fills with water and sand, is very stable and doesn't move when I vacuum. Hallelujah!

Between the re-do of both tanks and drip acclimating Mr. Pleco, I was a very busy person last Sunday!!!

    Video and photos to come.

A few pics of my wild caught BNP and a VERY short video. He is about 4 inches, should grow to 5. He is doing great, eating his Hikari algae wafers and Omega One green seaweed. He is so much more active in the 75 vs the diamond tetra tank. Still won't eat any veggies.

Attached to his seaweed clip -

I slowed it down so he could be seen for a bit longer - even with the moonlights on, he was gone 5 seconds after I appeared with the camera -

He looks great Laura! Nice and full bodied and the bristles are so darn cute! I actually like the slow motion, even the danios fins looked nice and "flowy"

Thanks, Judi. He's a good looking boy with some good sized bristles. The other wild caught BNP at the LFS was a bit darker and already had huge bristles. I want to watch him and his bristles grow. I think he was very intimidated by the diamond tetras in the 29 gal. The big male diamond would guard the algae wafer - it was too funny!

Being a wild caught BNP I thought he was going to be very shy, but he gets along great with my 75 gal inhabitants and they with him.

And that's the first time I've seen my danios do anything slowly.......LOL!

Default Disaster in my 75 gal

    0 Not allowed!
Well, I had a major disaster in my 75 gal. I came home Friday from work to a tank with ich. Friday morning everyone looked fine and they all ate their breakfast as usual. I watch my fish when they eat (I do a head count) and I would have noticed if anything was not right.

No idea where this came from - ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 10, pH stable at 7.2. The only thing I can figure is that they got stressed when I rescaped the tank 2 weeks ago. Everything has seemed fine since then, but maybe it wasn't. Friday morning everyone looked fine and they all ate their breakfast as usual.

I lost 4 rainbows, 5 gold pristellas and my big scissortail, a total of 10 fish out of 29. Starting Friday night, I slowly raised the tank temp to 86 (I had to take today off, no way could I make it in to work and I wanted to monitor the remaining fish) and will raise it today to 88. Two of the rainbows and 2 of the tetras were covered in spots Friday night (the only fish with any visible spots) and the scissortail got them on Saturday. I think the other 2 rainbows and 3 tetras succumbed to the higher temp or they had the ich in their gills where I couldn't see it, as there were no spots on their bodies. I added an extra airstone and will do a 50% PWC a bit later today. I had no deaths overnight, so hopefully the remaining 4 rainbows, 4 gold pristellas, 7 danios (God they're tough), 3 scissors and Mr. Pleco will make it thru the next 2 weeks of high temp treatment.

I probably won't be posting much, as I am too worn out and devastated. I can't believe my beautiful rainbows and my biggest scissortail are gone. One of the rainbows and the scissor were from when I originally set this tank up in Dec 2012, been in it for 20 months.

Thanks in advance for your kind thoughts and wishes.

I am sorry to hear this too. Hopefully the higher temps will bring it under control and there won't be any more losses.
