It is fun to see forum members tanks evolve and change. I love the journals, watching the tanks take shape and seeing the adjustments being made until it is just right. Or when someone does over their whole tank - I really enjoy those threads. But for me, I may change mine a bit here and there, but not much. I can always try a new look when I need to start replacing my fake plants.

Question New QT tank - transfer ordered fish to LFS tank or bring home in shipping bags

    0 Not allowed!
Over the next 2 weekends I'm hoping to build the stand for my 2 QTs, (the 10 gal and 20 gal high) and clear out the space for them where my laundry area used to be. I also want to set up my RO/DI unit and the 35 gal tub I use for the made water in the same space. Need to add a wooden screen door with pet screening to keep the cats out, as I want it to be a cat-free zone.

I'm going to use the 20 high to quarantine the 8 glowlight danios. I would like to get the fish on 7/13, as my biomax should be well seeded by then. I need to call Hoffer's so they can add the danios to their fish order.

Question - is it better for the fish to spend a couple of weeks at the LFS before I get them or should I pick them up the day they are delivered and not have them be transferred to the LFS tank at all?

The background on my 75 gal was really starting to fall off at each end (the gel stuff it's stuck on with dried out), so last night I removed it. I am hoping to paint a black background this weekend (also on the dual 29 gals). The gel has to fully dry out or it is impossible to remove without using some type of solvent.

It looks so different without the rock background. There is a very dark brown wall behind the tank, so I have a pretty good idea what it will look like painted black. And my Aqueon Pro heaters are black, so they just disappear. I will post pics after it's painted.

Alas, instead of painting the back of my tank like I should have, I used the vinyl black background with that gel stuff...it is already bubbling up in places, and peeling at the edges

Since the tank is set up close to a wall and is up and running with fish, painting it is now out of the question...I guess when the vinyl BG finally falls off, I will use black cardboard

You are going to paint with fish in?...sorry, I did not go back and read if this tank is still set up, but I assume it is...it's the one in your sig, correct?

Yes, it's the 75 gal. I bought a "pad painter" which I can attach to a screw-in wooden handle (from my broom). It is supposed to paint a smooth surface with no brush marks. I will tape off the frame and sides so the paint goes only on the glass. I am using the same paint that I used on the stand, a premium interior latex from Ace Hardware. I have about 5 inches behind the tank, hence the paint pad.

The fun part will be just prior to removing about 25% of the water for my PWC. I have to move the AC110s to the front of the tank, do a 180 with the glass tops, securely cover the top of the tank, clean the glass and then paint the back! Then after the paint dries for 2 hours, I add black poster board over the painted glass (to prevent scratches from the AC110s), move the filters back and finish my PWC.

I'm going to attach these to the back frame and slide the poster board thru the fridge clips. I think it will secure it nicely.

I added a "floating" plant - it's actually attached to the center brace with cable ties. The danios LOVE it and swim up there all the time. The lighting is the setting that cycles thru all the color spectrums. Video has sound.
