I forgot to mention - in the video, the long-finned zebra danio with the string of poop is Shorty, who had his tail bitten off in the QT. It has grown back beautifully and with a different pattern at the base of the tail - none of my other danios have that swirly pattern like Shorty does.

The tank and fish all look really good. I especially like the rocks. The dwarf neon rainbow remind me of a slightly larger Columbian tetra. The colors are very similar.
When in doubt, do a water change.

The change looks great! Really opens it up. Your tank/fish always looks so clean/healthy. Love it.

    Question

Thanks, guys. My tank isn't anywhere near as colorful as yours, Kevin! Hopefully that will change a bit when I get the glowlight danios. They will add a nice reddish/orange color to the tank. I have to wait till my new biomax is seeded. I threw out the biomax and sponge from the AC30 that was on the QT. I didn't want to take any chances. Should be seeded by the July 6th.

I want 8 of the danios and I think I can QT them all in the 20 gal. I have to get a stand for it, as it won't fit in my bathroom like the 10 gal. They have a nice metal stand online at petco that isn't too expensive. Or I might build my own - I found a DIY wood stand online that I want to build for the two 20 longs I want to setup later this year. Maybe I will build the same stand for the 20 gal QT. I have a few weeks to decide.

Here is the stand I am thinking of building:

DIY Wood tank stand 1.jpgDIY Wood tank stand 2.jpgDIY Wood tank stand 3.jpg

It looks really sturdy. I like that the whole bottom sits on the floor instead of just the 4 legs - better weight distribution. And this way I can build the stand level to the floor, rather than leveling it after the tank is added.

What do you think of this stand?

I think it's a sturdy build. It'll be more solid than anything you can buy.

Your tank always looks good Laura, very good job on the change-over. I'm a big fan of driftwood but the new rocks look great.

Just wanted to say that I really like your tank. Rocks and fake plants are what I would like to go with and you have a great showpiece using them. (Having 6 kitties in my house, I think I also need to go back and read up sometime on your canopy!)

Thanks. I love my artificial decor. I know that live plants are probably not for me. I like my aquascaping to look the same all the time. I am sure if I had live plants, I would be forever trimming and fussing with them! My tank is easy to maintain and water changes and vacuuming are no problem. The hardest part for me is waiting for my RO/DI unit to make my water - it takes about 5 hours!

The canopy was very easy to build. It is in 2 pieces (top and frame), so I can remove it easily for vacuuming and filter/tank maintenance. The top is hinged about 2/3 of the way back. Depending on what I need to do, I can either open the front or back, remove just the top or the top and frame. Another great thing about DIY, you can really customize it to your specific needs. You can make it as high as you want - as I have a 48 inch single bright LED which produces no heat, I made it a bit shorter so it didn't overpower the tank. Also, because there is no heat from the LEDs, the top and the frame sides go all the way to the wall in back, so the cats can't play with the AC110s or any cords they might snag with their claws.

Send me a PM and I can send you more detailed pics.

The funny thing is, none of my cats have ever even tried to jump on the canopy. Of course, if I removed it, I'd have cats swimming in the tank with the fish!!! LOL

To me and many of us the ever changing aspect is the fun. If you know you're not into that then artificial is indeed a good choice.
