    Default 20L for Rivers' son

Hello AC community! This journal will be used to keep track of my son's ten gallon tank. We are in the very early stages of setting it up. This project is one he is excited about and I'm delighted over his interest.

While I had been thinking on this project for a good long while, the size was up for debate for quite some time. I've tried to take some photos of our progress, so I'll set those in here first.

Hahaha! Glad to have you along!

Fair warning, Joe: this process might be a bit like watching paint dry.

We bought some of this a (long) while back:

Cut it and then put duct tape along the edges. (Edge trim suggested from our friend Slap)

We have been messing with the little tank over the school break. Our son helped me tape it (and tape it) and then the other areas and the opening got covered in several layers of paper and plastic. Probably over-done, but he loves playing with tape, so there's that.

The first coat of paint went on so well. So well!

We let it dry overnight and the second coat of paint went on well too...

But after that dried, this grey spot that we'd noticed from the first coat was still there. I had thought it was simply an area that we'd painted too thinly over.

So I did a third coat...

To anyone who is going to paint the back of their tank: if your first two coats look good, STOP there.

Perhaps it was just the late hour. Perhaps it was that I was a little too determined to ensure that grey patch got covered... whatever the excuse, my third coat was applied by a heavy hand.

I was pretty mad at myself all day yesterday over it. It is what it is though. Hub was thinking it wouldn't show through the glass (the view from the inside) but I was nervous. We waited until today to let it cure really well. Then our son did the unveiling.

The kids say the back looks like trees in design, but I think they are
Just trying to make me feel better.

I had spots like that when I painted, too, but it's what's on the inside that counts...as with many things

This is going to be fun to watch! What is the purpose of duck tape on the insulation?

At any rate, I'm excited about this project and we are moving forward.

This is where the tank is going to sit, in his room.

It wasn't my preference (being in front of the windows) but I was overruled. The placement has actually been debated in our house for several months, so... This is where it will be.

If it's called tourist season why can't I shoot them?
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

Dear naps, sorry I hated you so much when I was a child... Love me
