Thread: BogWood

  1. Question BogWood

    0 Not allowed!
So about a 5 days ago I purchased some bogwood from a fish store as I was going to need it for when I get my BN pleco's. I let it settle in warmish tap water for about 3 days and then put it in my tank. I hesitated a little as I am busy doing a fish less cycle with that tank. It was fine in the water for 2 days then on the 3rd in my tank it started giving off a weird white substance.Does anyone know what that would be and if I can keep the wood in there.
    70g
Busy doing fish less cycle.(Around day 6)
No chemicals have been added to the water besides some anti-chlorine blend to make the water safe.(Made in Germany so it is not cheap)

Pictures are a really good idea in cases like this but I will guess beforehand anyway.

The technical term I prefer is "driftwood snot" but it is simply biofilm that will go away or some fish will eat it if it's still around when they arrive.

Post pics to confirm this please.

Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

A warm beer is better than a cold beer. Because nothing is better than a cold beer, and a warm beer is better than nothing.

Scrub it off with a brush and toss it back in the tank. Some wood does that when it first becomes water logged. Technically, wood you buy is driftwood. Most has never seen any water. Bogwood is wood you drag out of the swamps or rivers that is already soaked and very old and been in the water for years. Like in a swamp.

When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
