Their group dynamics is interesting to watch, from far each of them do their own thing but as soon as you approach the school forms.

IMO and from what I've seen, a lot of people keep rainbowfish in small groups and wouldn't see their potential until they are in a larger, more comfortable school.

Also what steeler1 is saying is true, breeding definitely brings out some of their best colours, especially in the morning.

One of my favorite things at my old LFS was a 300gal tank fully planted with over 40 adult rainbows of all colors. They were amazing.
    FW: 1 45gal, 1 40gal, 3 10gal, 3 30gal all community tanks of different species
    Sw: 1 55gal, 1 30gal show, 1 29gal show, 1 20gal and 2 10's

Initially I was thinking of adding red irians for contrast but I really didn't want to risk them cross breeding.

Ah yes, I love Rainbows, too. When they're young they're not much to look at, but as they mature they do become quite beautiful and they're very active peaceful fish. I'd love to have a large tank with a decent sized school of them.

I noticed that I haven't gone into too much detail on some of the other plants I keep in my tank. One of rarer species I have are Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Florida Sunset' (ironically, I used to live in Florida and I really like this plant).

I currently have two separate plants and my supplier just got 10 more in for me for part of my upcoming re-scape but more on that later. I especially like this plant because it does great in my water and has very interesting coloration.

Stock image taken from Florida Aquatic nurseries, for anyone wanting to know more about this specific plant, I will post a link below, thank you.

Decision time, how do you guys think it would look if I saw my long driftwood in half an use it as two vertical columns instead of one horizontal piece? Opinions, concerns go!

Opinions... Could be really cool looking... conscerns... you know what you are doing but it could leach at the core? IDK how old it is.

I actually forgot about that completely as it didn't leach when I bought it. I don't know how old it is either haha but the parts I cut are buried under the sand so whatever leaching may or may not occur will be somewhat contained.

So guys, I spent my entire night re-scaping my tank. The accent light I purchased for the plants should be here by Wednesday so I'll be cleaning my filter, replacing the bulb in my uv sterilizer, cleaning the lights and just give the tank an overall cleaning on that day.

I will post pics Thursday after the UV has a chance to work, stay tuned for a surprise ;)

So on top of being stressed out from my upcoming exams, I came down to see one of my biggest wanams swimming erratically. I recorded a video to get your opinions. I assume it's swim bladder disease so I have removed him from the main tank and placed him in a small QT tank.

I dosed a little stress guard to help calm him down and I am going to boil peas and try my luck with that. If he doesn't eat those I will try aquarium salt.

As this is my first time treating a disease (besides a case of ick in my pond), I am a bit worried about losing him, any suggestions on what to do or if my diagnosis may be wrong I am open for correction.

I removed my heaters during my rescape on Monday, other than that I do not know what could have caused it. I just hope he will recover and the rest of them aren't affected :/
