Have you recently tested your water parameters? Can you please list your readings for ammonia, nitrites & nitrates?

What size tank do you have and what is your total stock (types of fish & #'s of each)

When is the last time you changed your water & how much?
46 gal fw tank with black skirt tetras, neon tetras, spotted corys, cherry barbs, otoclinus, snails & 4 amano shrimp - plastic & live plants
    5 gal QT

Ok - apparently you aren't testing your water? - The stocking you have in there seems reasonable but unless you know your water parameters it is not possible to know whether you should be changing your water more often or not.

Also, you mentioned 8mos - have you stocked this tank little by little?

How often do you clean your filter (and I mean rinse the media in used tank water, not replace the media) and what kind do you have?

    - Thanks a lot for replying. Sorry - Missed to Thank you in my last post

You are right - I am not testing the water :(

The tank is around 9months old, started in March- the stock are created really slowly. I have cycled the tank with those rummy nose - I am not sure what but seems some thing is broken :( not sure how.

I am using EHIME 2217 and clean it every 2 weeks religiously.

Andrea makes several good points here. Rummy Nose's are very sensative to any poor water quality. I change 30% of my tank once a week.

    I do a 50% + WC every week-
So to all it seems related to water quality not any disease?

I'm sorry when you said you "cleaned" your tank every two weeks, I thought you ment you were doing your water change then.

Maybe when your cleaning your tank your doing to good of a job and killing good bacteria. When you clean your tank do you wash out the filter media in tap water?

Get yourself if I may; a test kit so you can test your parameters.

Absolutely - without knowing your water parameters, there could be plenty of stuff in there stressing out your fish, causing loss of coloration & death - water parameters involve ammonia, nitrites & nitrates - there is a sticky in the beginners section of the forum that tells you about cycling a tank with fish that is really important to read - along with getting a liquid testing kit which is much more economical & more accurate than test strips.

Considering you are obviously concerned about the well being of your fish, it is just logical/practical to get a kit and know what's happening with your fish's environment.

Also, it is unncessary to clean your filter every 2 weeks - many of us on this forum clean ours anywhere from every 1-3mos - that involves washing our media in used tank water but not replacing anything!
