local fish store put in their place
hi all re: to many fish in my tank. you guys told me i am well overstocked on my fish and i told you the amount of fish i was allowed to have from MY LOCAL STORE was about 25 but apparrently the pictus catfish need my 130 litres of space to themselves so i told store it was over stocked and told him which fish were in tank and he still insists he was giving me the right advice, as for the fish needing space as they grow up and the catfish needing the tank to themselves his reply was your fish are all small for now and they will take a few years before they grow up, so providing you keep good maintenance and reguarly check ph amonia nitrata and nitrite levels and generaly look after things all should be okay and he can see no problem with this, ( so i have took him at his word, on the understanding he refund me for every fish that dies in my tank for the forseable future. cant get a better deal than that can you) !!! attention for all other readers and for lady hobbs the last part which is in brackets IS SUPPOSED TO BE A JOKE but unfortunatley was taken serious from the start. as no normal person would go back 3months later and get a refund would they duuuh

your fish will be fine till they get to big, then what does he expect you to do with them? will he take them back then? probably not. doesn't sound like a very good deal to me. most fish stores refund fish that die in the near future of buying them.

Sorry, but it sounds to me more as he put you in your place since you will still be maintaining the same amount of fish. LOL
Most stores quarantee their fish for 10-14 days. No store is going to give credit for a dead fish 3 months from now. But once again, the fish growing up has not been taken into consideration. Fish become more territorial and began picking mates as they mature and that's when they need more space.
I hope it works for you, tho.Cycling With Fish?•• The Fishless Cycle••

lady hobbs
sorry it sounds as if you are not understanding me right , i am quite aware i wouldnt get a refund for dead fish in three months time nor would i want to, and as for the fish not being taken into consideration if you had read write you would see that i am going to rehouse them in their own suitable tank and i also would not see any animal under the slightess stress, my reply was simply humorous to let steam off to the man in the store and i think he will have been put in his place as he will remember me and treat me with some respect next time so no i have not been put in my place as you clearly seem to think i have

i just don't think you saying anything to the guy made any difference.....he still thinks he's right and sees nothing wrong with how you have your fish. he just doesn't seem to get it and probably never will.

Some people you can joke with a bit and some you can't. My belief is when you post in an open forum, you may get some opinions you don't particularly care for but isn't that what a forum is? Opinions?
He wrote: on the understanding he refund me for every fish that dies in my tank for the forseable future.
I wanted him to understand that fish dying after the quarantee date will not be replaced.
People in fish stores can often give misleading information. I see constantly people buying common pleco with a 20 gallon tank. I see gold fish and warm water fish being purchased for the same tank. I see bala sharks being put in 20 gallon tanks. (been there/done that)
You try to help people out with advice. They either take it or they don't.Cycling With Fish?•• The Fishless Cycle••

well at the end of the day doesnt really matter who is right and who is wrong the main thing is the welfare of the fish and my apologies to you lady hobbs, i do tend to get wound up where animals are concerned, i will have to purchase extra tank to reduce stock then they are all de stressed out, as the saying goes if animals are happy then i am happy
