Default LED lighting for a Nano

    0 Not allowed!
    Hey everybody,

Just curious if anybody knew any good LED fixtures I could use over a nano tank. Size wize it'll be a 20 gallon with the back ~6-8 inches sectioned off to hide the equipment

I'm also kicking around doing a diy build so that I can have my color mix and have two dimmable channels

    Any links are appreciated!

    Cheers
55g Long --> After 18mo of doing well the tank crashed during moving. Most likely cause: Flatworm Die-off... won't start another until after moving... Likely not until late 2013

20g Long --> currently concoting a build plan

Check out the journal to follow my 20g SW tank

I seen people use two of theses, please note you can buy other bulbs for other company with other led options. DIY be best for own color control.

I got three of these stunner strips and they are bright enough for anything.
Link for the pros which are more powerful but twice the money.

Whats your price range your looking to spend? And 20 long or high?

20 long and I'm hopefully spending under 200 on the lighting but we'll see the budget hasn't been fully worked out yet

    Any corals? Dimensions?

If so, DIY would be your best/cheap option. It can be really simple build or I can tell you how to make it complicated but 100% custom DIY

    Dimensions are 24 x 12.5 x 12.5

And I'm thinking of doing a pretty custom DIY build glarior haven't finalized the plans yet but we'll see I'm trying to figure out how many LED's and what mix I want lol

for SPS... ~16-18 LED's. You can have a full spectrum or just blue/whites. I personally like the full spectrum. That is what I am working on now.

If you an electronics person you can build your own touch screen controller and use $5 meanwell drivers and be able to dim them.

So many options I can go on and on about.

    What ideas are you thinking?

I'm definitely an electronics person and idk I was thinking more something I could have on a pre-designated loop... with the option to change it but I don't want to have to turn the lights on and down myself every day that'd just be an exercise in insanity

I'm interested to hear you're custom design so lay em on me! lol

Sorry for the long wait on the reply... I don't use the internet much during the weekend.

Here is the build I have followed and working on too.

You can build the controller, have PCB's made to hold the $5 dimmable drivers and use solderless connections for the LED's on single heatsinks. If you did all that you can control your LED's via touch screen, add cool options to the build, if you don't like colors you detatch them from the array since you did not have to solder them and its cheaper. Least for me it is way cheaper vs doing the normal way.

There are a lot of heatsinks out there. For your build there are a lot of options from mouser or heatsinkusa. The size I am building rules out heatsinkusa.

Also, with that contorller you would be able to do a full spectrum of LED's. There are charts showing which light is used by corals. The light I will be working on will have cyan, RB, WW, NW, deep red, blue and UV. All will be controlled by the arduino

Thanks for the link! How deep are you in on this money wise? and do you have a projected final cost?
