  1. Default 2 300 W heaters overkill in a 90

The heater in my 90 gal is 300 watts. The tank is in my office which gets pretty cool at night during the winter months. I have an extra 300 w heater that I picked up for a song as a back up but now am wondering if I shouldn't just install it.

Or would it be over kill to add another 300W heater?

    thanks

personally, if I had a 90+ gallon tank, i would run a dual 300w system.

ever since I added a much bigger heater for my tank than needed-the temp is more constant and it'll allow the heater to last longer.
    I run a 300w on my 45gallon.
i'll get a longer life span of the heater b/c it isn't constantly fighting temp changes. and if you have 2 heaters-it just makes it that much more efficient.

the only issue, during calibration, if you don't calibrate correctly and the heaters mess up, you can cook the fish twice as fast.lol.

If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

  7. Question

Same situation (very cool winter overnight temp) with a 75 gal - would 2 vs 1 250W heaters be a good idea?

My heater is rated for a 90 gal with a 15 degree difference between room and tank temp. Should I also add the 2nd heater? Getting ready to fishless cycle the tank in about 2 weeks.

We are in the same snow belt LOL. I installed my 2nd 300W this afternoon. If nothing else, you'll have back up if one of the heaters goes out.
