fresh to salt
hey guys sorry if this has been asked before.
my question is I have a 55g freshwater tank with power heads and a heater if I wanted to change this to salt would all I need be a lot of live rock and a protein Skimmer?
another question I know all about monitoring water parameters and water changes do you think a all in one mini reef could be an option? or better just to stick with the larger tank first?

That equipment list is a good start. If you start out with corals or just fish is really a personal choice that would depend on how much you want to research first and if you have reef ready lighting or not. It might be best to start off with fish and give you tank a chance to mature a little before adding corals
For your first tank, larger is always better. It will be a lot easier to keep the water parameters stable. When you cycle the tank, you will need to keep your eye on your: salinity, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH. After your tank is cycled you should really keep your eye on the: salinity, nitrate, phosphates, calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium.
