Not happy with the current selection of fish at your LFS? Wait until January.
I recently stopped by my LFS and was looking at the new arrivals. Their selection was not very big. I mentioned it to the manager and he said that the fish shippers do not ship much this time of year due to the delays from all the Christmas packages. Most stores will wait until the holidays are over before they resume their normal orders. If you are currently stocking a tank and have not been impressed by what you see in your store, you may just want to wait to see what comes in later.

We have the same situation were we live due to the increase shipping volumes during the X-mass holidays.
Due to were we are, almost all of these shipments are flown in and can easily be delayed a day or two.
Our LFS and the SW LFS won't even try to order anything in between Dec 15th and Jan 7th. But boy it sure is fun when they try to stock up before that time hitsIf you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

They airfreight the boxes in containers to the wholesalers, land them, await orders and then they ship them in a truck.
I used to ship in about 50 boxes a week during all months but December. They raise the air argo fees a bit and your stuff gets bumped for mail and priority shipping so I would just stock up for December.

I know the past owner of the LFS (when it was good) would stock-up on his fish this time of year because he felt everybody would be buying to make their tanks look good for all the visiters to thier homes over the holidays.Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.

Over here in Europe it's also the summer season. Hardly any new stock gets in between mid-july and late august.

Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.
A warm beer is better than a cold beer. Because nothing is better than a cold beer, and a warm beer is better than nothing.
