Far more details & Pictures are going to be required before we can even attempt to tell you if it's an idea worth trying.
EDIT: Oh.. I wasn't clear that it was a replacement Cliff.Last edited by Goes to 11!; 12-09-2012 at 11:41 AM.

If you replacing a broken pain of glass, I would suggest completely removing the outer seal from the whole tank. Take out the pain of glass that is broke. Silicone a new one in its place. Then after letting the silicone cure, replace the outer seal for the whole tank. Just make sure you completely remove the old silicone as the new silicone will only bond with the glass
I know a guy on another forum that replace a broken pc of glass on a 180 gallon tank that way
If your handy this should not be all that big of a deal. But if your not, I would not attempt thisIf you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

The aquarium I use for my snake has a double pane on the one end...they left the broken plate in place...and then heavily siliconed another plate onto of it.
Apparently it worked...it was used for fish...but looks awful.
I got it for free, and it didn't matter to me...but I wouldn't want it for my 'show' tank...55 g Goldfish Tank - 5 Fancies, 2 Dojos

If this is for a fish tank, it also can not be just any glass but a certain thickness to withstand the pressure of water.

when replacing the glass you can hold everything together so it stays straight with along rubber strip like a rubber band or maybe a bungee would work.
