Saw 7 or 8 new fry in the tank this morning. Didn't have time to do anything about it and wasn't really planning to. When I got home they were all gone, which doesn't surprise me because they were all congregating at the surface where food goes. Why don't they have the sense to hide in the substrate like platy fry? I have 4 survivors who have learned to swim out at feeding time and snatch the TetraMin flakes that Mom allows to sink.
    15 gal: 1 butt-ton Malaysian trumpet snails.
20 gal: 20+ various molly and platy fry.
    55 gal: 40 neon tetras.
75 gal: 2 Taiwan reef cichlids, 3 pelmatochromis nigrofasciatus juveniles.

I never had platy fry hide in the substrate. They hide in the plants. LOL

Its nature at work - basic instinct is to flee from predators (not quick enough for those gone) - then learned behaviour (the 4 survivors)

+1 to hiding in the plants & nature.

Are your molly fry idiots, too?
Lol - You have hit upon one reason they are such prolific breeders. In my house - Idiots or not, They are Oscar snacks eventually.
    Gas mileage isn't everything OIIIIIIIO
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

A warm beer is better than a cold beer. Because nothing is better than a cold beer, and a warm beer is better than nothing.
