Pl give me the formula of bottom land.
Please give me some formulas of bottom land that I can use in 1-2 years without changing. Can I add Na2CO3 to the bottom land to make water softer? If I can, please show me how many g Na2CO3 / litre H2O do I need?
Thank you so much!

Vi,
Standard method of softening is filtering though peat moss. Other would be putting peat in bag and hanging in tank.

How hard is your water really?
Hobbs will attest to this: Many people think there water is really hard but in fact it is not that hard. Fish can be kept successfully in pretty hard water so give us an idea of how hard you are looking at.

Thanks for your ideas!

I know that the best way to softening is filtering, but I wonder if there is another way to softerning water. If using Na2CO3 can make water softer, we don't have to design a filtered system which occupies a large place. So I would like to add Na2CO3 to bottom land, but I wonder how we calculate gNa2CO3 for 1litre H2O and how we keep Na2CO3 metl slowly in water.

I don't know how you measure the hardness, but the hardness of water in my city is 9-10 units (approximate 200mgCa++/litre H2O and 120mgMg++/litre H2O). In this water some kind of fish and aquatic plants can not live normally.

Vi,
From what I gather, 0.238 grams per liter. Sodium carbonate is dangerous to fish in large amounts. You could also use driftwood to assist in softening the water.
My tap water is very, very hard, so I mix reverse osmosis/deionized water 70-30 to reach pH 6.8, gH 4, kH 6. I don't know if reverse osmosis units are available in your country.

Thanks Dave!
Thanks Dave, I'll try the way you show me,
but I wonder If you have to add sodium carbonate after you change water.

Vi,
How many litres is your container?

Dave66,
I have a tank which has size: 0.8*0.45*0.7 = 0.252m3 = 252litre
and 3 smaller tanks which have size: 0.37*0.20*0.30 = 0.027m3 = 27.38 litre/tank
I'm going to use these 3 tanks to make an experiment follow your advice.
