Electric Blue Jack Dempsey 80G tank.

I was wondering what would be good tank mates for an EBJD. I was hoping to be able to plant the tank, but was unsure of the Jds compatability. I am also very interested in adding some crustaceans, and am wondering what, if any, would be a good fit. I welcome any advice on the matter.

That's a tough one, they are named after the famous boxer after all and i've never seen any litature that gives a clear answer as to what to keep with them.

Hopefully some of the Chiclid experts will weigh in.

The Electric blue dempsey is not as aggressive as the gold and normal colors.The 80 gallon aquarium is not large enough for many fish that will get the size of the dempsey.Here is a few recomedations;a group of honduran red points,pike cichlid,Hemichromis jewels,thorichthys species(firemouths, ellioti)or a salvini.Catfish such as a large syno,or an asian upsidedown catfish.There should be plenty of structure in the aquarium to help with territory distribution.

I have an electric blue JD. And I agree with someone's post that said they are not as aggressive as the original and larger JD
Mine's a baby - around 2 - 2 1/4 inches long and he's the most docile fish I've got. I started him out in my 90 gallon with Blood Parrots, an angel a Severum and some congos. He was not aggressive enough to compete for food so I fished him out and put him in my 30 (until he grows out a bit) with my tetras and cories where he is thriving and still not one bit aggressive.

I have no experience with adult EBJD's, however, have done a lot of reading and consulting with a guy who raises them. Supposedly they remain pretty passive. I hope to return him to the 90 in a few months.

+ 1 to both of you. Proves you can learn something new all the time. Read about these EBJD's a few years back but knew very little about them, just thier onery forbearers.
